Parkinson's disease is a neurodegenerative disorder that progressively impacts an individual's ability to control their body movements. In Australia, approximately 200,000 individuals are affected by this condition, with an average of 38 new diagnoses made daily. This debilitating disease has touched nearly everyone by its impact on a family member or friend.
In August 2011, Shake It Up Australia Foundation initiated a partnership with The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (MJFF) to utilize the expertise in Parkinson’s drug development available in Australia.
Shake It Up Australia Foundation allocates funds within Australia to recipients identified through the MJFF's selection process. Additionally, the two entities have cooperated to introduce MJFF's significant clinical investigation, the Parkinson’s Progression Markers Initiative (PPMI), to Australia. MJFF is also a collaborator in The Australian Parkinson’s Mission, which will involve implementing the Linked Clinical Trial program in Australia.
For the month of April, Recycle Central Group will donate ten dollars per bin it provides to every customer to Shake It Up Australia to assist with their ongoing commitment to fighting Parkinson's. Recycle Central Group is honoured to be able to provide this support during Parkinson's Disease Awareness Month, April 2024.
